Here are some questions I get asked on a daily basis.
HOW DID IT FEEL TO DRIVE ON THE DALTON?
I remember the first day I got behind the wheel. There were no practice runs or any time to get familiar with the truck I was driving. There were multiple cameras rolling and piled on top of an already tall W900 dashboard and I just hit the road with my producer who also had a camera. Every moment was tense as I got familiar with my truck, the feeling of driving on pure ice and every twist, turn, hill and downgrade of the 400 mile road. It took me about a month until I actually enjoyed driving the Dalton and I could really take it all in. It wasn’t so much the road itself that had me tense, but the extra company in the truck with me and all of the equipment that throws your attention off somewhat. Truckers aren’t used to having so much going on in our trucks, it’s usually just us and the open road. All in all it became an amazing accomplishment.
WHO WAS YOUR FAVORITE CO-WORKER?
I really liked riding with Phil, Tony and Leah. I had also run with some other employers of Carlile and they were all so nice and always willing to help.
DID YOU AND LISA KELLY GET ALONG?
Lisa and I maybe did a run together once or twice so I didn’t get to know her all that well. She’s a hard worker and was always willing to help.
WAS DAVE REDMON REALLY THE ASSHOLE THAT HE PORTRAYED TO BE ON THE SHOW?
10-4. Thats a yes
IS REALITY TV REALLY REALITY?
Yes and no… The surroundings are real, the people are real, the Ice Road is real, there’s no practicing or warming up to anything, you’re thrown to the wolves so to speak… but there is a level of scripting. Drama is usually fabricated to make the show more interesting. But as in Dave Redmon’s case, sometimes it doesn’t have to be fabricated! I myself was conscious of how I was portrayed since trucking is a passion of mine and I didn’t want to “Blacklist” myself from the industry. Because of that I came across as stupid, incapable and weak. Well at least I didn’t come across as a backstabbing b!tch
WHY AREN’T YOU ON THE SHOW ANYMORE?
The year that Season 5 aired I was very busy making appearances around the world for History, and after settling down for a bit I got back to trucking full time in NJ, my home. I focused on my job here and then family life and brought another little future trucker into our lives. I took 5 months off from trucking during my pregnancy.
WHY DIDN’T YOU MAKE MANY APPEARANCES?
Because of my full time trucking job here in NJ, I chose to appear at local events and a select few out of state. This is my home here and I’m needed at my real job, especially since it’s a family job, so that is my priority.
WILL YOU EVER BE BACK ON IRT?
I can’t get myself to answer a definite Yes or a definite No to this. I’m a spontaneous person. I guess I’ll decide if or when the invitation arises. If I were to be back on the show, I would not be allowed to announce that information anyway.
DID YOU LIKE BEING ON THE SHOW?
Yes and no. Being on the show was an amazing opportunity; one that happens once in a lifetime for some. I had the pleasure of meeting many wonderful people and made lifelong friends along the way. I achieved a huge accomplishment that many only dream about. I consider myself lucky to be discovered and asked to do this.
On the other hand, I never wanted to be a Celebrity. There are pros and cons but more cons for a person like myself. I’m a private person, I mind my business and I do my own thing. I don’t want to be treated any differently. I enjoy hanging with people at truck shows and just relaxing. I’d rather be doing that then sitting at a display with a gate around me. People believe what they see on TV, especially since it’s labeled as a reality show, and they treat you in regards to that belief which can be very negative and make you seem like half the person you really are.
I must say that regardless of how I feel about that, I appreciate all who look up to me and call me their inspiration. That is the best gift I could ever receive from becoming a “Celebrity”.
CAN YOU GET ME ON IRT?
Not even if I tried. The producers are very specific for who and what they are looking for, and they go out there and find it themselves. I will suggest that you make a youtube account and a blog and get yourself and your personality “out there” to be discovered.
WHAT DO YOU DO IN YOUR FREE TIME?
When the busy season at work isn’t occupying 13 hours of my days, I love to spend quality time with my family, build my 2nd business, study and learn new things, work on my cars and trucks, attend truck shows, race my car, help charities, cook, garden, archery target shoot, spend a quiet day on the lake fishing and shopping when I’m in the mood.
WHAT DO YOU DO FOR A LIVING NOW?
I am still a truck driver. It’s a family owned business and we haul mulch. Anyone that knows about mulch haulers knows it’s a dirty exhausting job. The busy season is generally from April to July where we’re busting our butts in hot weather and pulling long hours. The good thing about it is you don’t need to go to the gym, and you’ll have no time to anyway! It’s a very physical job.
Other than trucking, I also own a part time energy business and I get much more involved with that during the slow months. I help people save money on gas and electric. It’s an addicting and rewarding business and I love it.
ARE YOU MARRIED?
Yes but our Wedding Reception won’t be until Spring of 2014
WHERE IS HOME?
WHY ISN’T YOUR ONLINE STORE OPEN ANYMORE?
After coming back from IRT, flying all over god’s creation and trying to keep faithful to my real trucking job here in NJ, I couldn’t keep up with the orders in a timely fashion. Once my son was born my time and devotion went to raising him for a few months and the less on my plate at the time the better. Now everything is pretty much back to normal.
However, I do send an autographed photo as a thank you to whoever signs up as my customer in my Energy business. The states that participate in energy deregulation are CA, CT, IL, MD, MASS, NY, NJ, PA, TX and DC. www.mayasieber.joinambit.com I don’t recommend or endorse anything that I don’t believe in – you save money immediately on your monthly bill and for every Kilowatt of energy you use you get points that add up for free vacations. No fees, no contracts, no shit!
